At that time, coach Lee and former national team member Kim Ki-jung were subject to drug testing by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) last year, but were not properly notified by the association, so they did not report their location to the World Anti-Doping Agency three times, and the Badminton International Federation suspended them for a year.

The association then formed a legal advisory group and appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), and held a re-deliberation, and the BWF Doping Hearing Committee held a re-deliberation and canceled the decision to suspend the qualification.
